Program Development & Facilitator Training

Workshop on Increasing Participation, OFL Health and Safety Conference for Health and Safety Instructors (1984)

Co-designed and facilitated two 5-day training programs in popular education for community workers, and for OPSEU (1988, 89)


Co-designed/facilitated two-week train the trainers program for instructors of Ontario Public Service Employees' Union. As followup, we taught this course again, apprenticing four of the graduates of the first course as instructors of the course (1990,91)

Co-researched/wrote/piloted the OFL course and materials on ?Racism Hurts Everyone? (1982/83)

Co-designed/facilitated 5-day Instructor Training Program on racism for the OFL/CLC (1984); 5-day Level II Instructor Training for CLC on Popular Education & Equity (2000)

Advisor to development of Weekend School on Effective Meetings, UAW (1988)

Co-designed/taught 5-day Instructor Training programs for CUPW (June 1994,95, 97)

Co-designed/implemented 6-month anti-racism development project for United Steelworkers of America. Work included a needs assessment, materials development, training, coaching. (1992)

1-day training programs for PSAC on gender and race issues in union education (1992,93)

2, 5-day train the trainers programs for Bell/CEP workplace reorganization teams (1994)

Development of Module on Group Building and Communication for Bell/CEP. Work included consultation with working group, developing module, pilot testing and facilitator training in Ontario (English) and in Québec (French). (1995)

Co-designed/facilitated course on "Union Solidarity Skills" for McMaster University Labour Studies Program (Fall 1995)

Wrote course on Communicating with the Members for USWA. (Spring 1996) Training for CUPE in developing popular education materials on public/private partnerships January/February 1998

Development of a 5-day, Level II Instructor Training Programs for CUPW, and materials emerging from this program. (1998-present)

Development of 5-day course for Member Organizers, SEIU. Piloting in Local 220. May 1998.

5-day Facilitator Training programs for Worker Educators, SEIU. Fall, Spring, Fall. 1998-1999.

Developing/piloting of courses on Bargaining with Power, Challenging Harassment, Stewards in Action, Women in Leadership, for SEIU locals, Sept. 1998-Feb. 2000.

Consultations on human rights program and policy development to unions, including OPSEU, United Steelworkers of America, CLC, SEIU, OFL (1980-present)

Bargaining preparation session. 2 days with BC Teachers? Federation & Union of Teachers? Federation Employees. (October 1996)

Staff Think tank for Office & Professional Employees International Union. (October 1996)

Employment equity education for OPSEU staff reps (1990)

Board development for several locals of SEIU. (1998-2000)

TVOntario Matters Coaltion. Contracted with D?Arcy Martin by CEP Local 72-M to coordinate a campaign to stop the privatization of TVOntario. The coalition brought together educators, parents, community leaders, unions.

Strategic planning facilitation (e.g. CLC officers and senior managers - October 2002; Federation Presidents' Conference - October 2002; Saskatchewn Federation of Labour, Executive and all committees - January 2001; Brampton/Mississauga Labour Council - spring 2001)
